New Shuttle Route for UBC

Transit-June2013

In December 2013, a new TransLink Community Shuttle route will take effect replacing the existing C20 and C22 service.

The new service offers an improved schedule and increased coverage of campus, creating stronger connections between amenities and attractions, neighbourhoods, and student residences.

Following consultation with the campus community in November 2012, UBC and TransLink have completed further technical work to explore alternative options for the new Community Shuttle route. Based on that technical work and community feedback, the new route will:

  • Depart from Student Union Boulevard and travel clock-wise along SW Marine Drive, maintaining service to the UBC Botanical Gardens and St. John’s Hospice
  • Travel counter clock-wise along West Mall, close to student residences
  • Provide service through South Campus to UBC Farm and Wesbrook Village
  • Run every 15 minutes in one direction or the other

What’s Next?

In the coming months, UBC Campus and Community Planning will continue to work closely with TransLink and Coast Mountain Bus Company on implementation of the new route. Closer to implementation, TransLink will be communicating the route changes to customers through their regular service change process, with updates to the TransLink website, customer alerts, and notices at stops. You can also check back here for scheduling information and bus stop locations closer to implementation or sign up for our monthly Campus and Community Planning e-newsletter to stay in the loop.

The new route is anticipated to take effect in December 2013. Please note that once the new shuttle service begins, the C22 and C20 routes will no longer run.

Public Input on the Changes to UBC’s Shuttle Routes

In November 2012, UBC and TransLink consulted the campus community on the proposal to expand the coverage of the C20 shuttle, and redistribute the C22 service hours to the C20 as the C22 has been an underutilized route.
